Itinerary For The 2 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari

Day 1 – Kigali City tour, Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Early in the morning after your breakfast at about 7:00 am, your guide / driver shall pick you up from your hotel to start the tour. You shall do a tour of the Capital, Kigali. Located at Rwanda’s geographical heart, Kigali is a vibrant, green and safe city with interesting landmarks including shopping malls, local trading centers, and genocide memorial sites among others.

After the tour you drive northwards with great views of the lush rolling hills and get to the Volcanoes National Park. Check in at Mountain Gorilla View lodge, relax and get ready for the evening visit to the Iby’iwacu cultural village for a great Rwanda performance. Return later to your lodge for dinner and overnight. Alternative lodges include Muhabura Hotel, Hotel la Palme, and Le’bambou gorilla lodge.

Day 2 – Gorilla trekking expedition, transfer back to Kigali

Be up as early as 6:00 am, dress up in your trekking attire, and have your breakfast. Grab your packed lunch and transfer to the park offices. At the park offices you join up with the rest of the trekking group for briefing by the ranger/guide. After the briefing you transfer to the starting point and start the trek. The trek takes you through thick forest cover, steep and slippery grounds.

It is quite strenuous but a worthy experience. The time taken to locate the Gorillas varies from a few minutes to several hours. When you finally locate the Gorillas, you are allowed not more than one hour with the gorillas. Note that chances of not locating the Gorillas are very slim. In fact by the time you start the trek, the guide has an idea of where to find the Gorillas. He uses his knowledge of gorilla movements and their known location the day before.

After the Gorilla trek you check out and transfer back to Kigali or your preferred drop-off point.
