This 3 Days Mgahinga gorilla trekking safari transfers you to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park located in southwestern Uganda and its Uganda’s smallest national park but one of the biggest reasons to Visit Uganda. Made up of 3 of the 7 Virunga volcanoes, it is the only park in Uganda where you can track Mountain Gorillas and Golden Monkeys, two world-endangered animals. The other park with Mountain Gorillas in Uganda is Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, but no Golden Monkeys.

- Mountain Gorilla Trekking
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park has one habituated gorilla group called Nyakagezi, made up of 9 members. However it has some nomadic tendencies that it sometimes crosses into the neighboring national parks in Rwanda and Congo. Note that Mgahinga is contiguous with Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic Congo to the west and with Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda to the south. The 3 parks form the Virunga Conservation Area. Mgahinga is home to a number of big game including buffaloes, forest elephants, leopards, jackals, serval, bush pigs, duikers, and bushbucks. Bird-life in the park is also quite impressive with recorded species of species about 178 – 184.
Itinerary For The 3 Days Gorilla Tracking Mgahinga Safari
Day 1: Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Have early breakfast and prepare for pick-up for the trip at exactly 7:00 am. Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and check in at your accommodation facility.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Have early breakfast, and transfer to the ranger station for briefing from the ranger. You shall need to carry with drinking water, packed lunch, rain jacket, and trekking boots. The walking stick shall be provided at the ranger station. After briefing set off into forest to track the habituated Nyakagezi gorilla group.
The time taken to find the gorillas is unpredictable and could range from a few minutes to several hours or even a whole day. They are constantly moving as they feed, but rangers do track their movements all the time hence chances of failing to find them are very minimal. As of writing this (April 2013) Nyakagezi group, the only habituated group in Mgahinga has only 9 members, that include 4 Silver backs, 1 Black back, 2 adult females, and 2 juveniles. When you find them you are allowed not more than an hour around them.
After successful trekking, return to the lodge to relax, have dinner and then overnight.
