The Ulitmate Gorilla Experience And The Chimpanzee Tracking

Rwanda has become popular for its mountain gorillas in the Volcanoes National Park. This safari offers a full day’s trek in the beautiful Volcanoes to track these shy giants. Other than the gorillas, Rwanda is home to a number of primates that include among others the Chimpanzees of Nyungwe Forest National Park. After the memorable gorilla experience in the Volcanoes National Park, the forest experience continues with the chimpanzee tracking expedition in Nyungwe to track man’s closest relatives – the chimpanzees. Other highlights of this safari include a tour of the vibrant Kigali City and a visit to the genocide memorial sites.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Meet your driver at 7.00am and travel to Volcanoes National Park. Check in at Mt.Gorilla view lodge/Le’bambou gorilla lodge/muhabura hotel.

Day 2 – Gorilla Trekking

Be up at 6.00am for your breakfast, fit your trekking attire, grab your packed lunch and transfer to the park offices. Join up with other trekkers for briefing after which you are transferred to the starting point. The trek is quite strenuous taking you through forest and steep and slippery grounds. The time taken to track these shy giants varies from a few minutes to several hours. Chances of not finding the gorillas are very slim. By the time you start the trek, your guide/ranger has an idea of where to find them. When you finally locate your gorilla group, a maximum of one hour is allowed to observe and photograph the gorillas. After the trek you retire to the lodge to relax, have dinner and overnight.

Day 3 – Transfer to Nyungwe National Park

Have breakfast, check out and travel to through kamiira towards kibuye to cyangugu and Continue with the drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park for an evening 2hrs canopy forest walk deep into the forest. Check out from the jungle and continue to your lodge at Gisakura Guest House,Nyungwe forest lodge OR Nyungwe top view hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 4 – Chimpanzee tracking

Be up at 6am for breakfast, transfer to the park offices for briefing. After the briefing you track the chimpanzees. The terrain is relatively steep and slippery. Though strenuous the trek offers a great wildlife experience with a chance of great wildlife sightings including the endangered golden monkey, l’Hoest monkeys, olive baboons, grey-cheeked mangabeys plus several bird species. After the experience retire to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5 – Transfer back to Kigali

Have breakfast, check out and travel to Kigali City for a tour. Visit the King’s palace at Nyanza, the Butare Museums and Murambi Memorial Center. Lunch shall be enroute and continue to kigali for your onward flight or drop off.
