Kibale National Park boasts of 13 primate species in 795 square kilometers of rainforest, including Uganda’s biggest population of the endangered Chimpanzees. While on the forest walk to track habituated chimpanzees, expect to see up to 71 species of mammals, 375 species of birds and 250 species of butterflies. After the exciting chimpanzee experience is the visit to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for a lifetime adventure, the Ultimate Gorilla Experience. Bwindi is an impenetrable jungle, protecting half of the world’s remaining Mountain Gorillas, and many other endemic and endangered forest creatures.

Itinerary

Day 1: Travel to Kibale National Park – Nature Walk

Prepare for pick-up from your hotel or residence at 7.00am and travel to Kibale Forest National Park. Check in at your lodge, have lunch and relax.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest

Have early breakfast and transfer to the ranger station in Kibale National Park for briefing. At 8.00am you set to track habituated chimps. Chimps share 98% genes with humans, making them more closely related to humans than any other creature. They are a tremendous fun to watch as they squabble and play in fruiting trees. Kibale Forest is incredibly diverse with over 13 species of primates including red Colobus monkey, the rare L’Hoest, blue monkey, grey Mangabey, pottos, black faced vervet monkeys, baboons and also bushbabies. Other wildlife include elusive forest elephant, buffalos, giant forest hogs, several antelope species and a number of forest birds and butterflies.

Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.

Later set out for the evening nature walk in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. Expect sightings of several monkey species, birds, trees, shrubs, beautiful flowers and other small animals.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Have early breakfast and leave for Bwindi National Park. You travel through the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park called Ishasha. As you drive through this area be on the look for the famous tree-climbing lions, and other wildlife such as buffalos, elephants, bushbucks, and topis among others. Continue and get to Bwindi Forest National Park, home of the endangered Mountain Gorillas.

Day 4: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest National Park

Have early breakfast and transfer to the park offices for briefing from the ranger. Set off for the mountain gorilla trekking into Bwindi Forest. Carry with you drinking water, rain jacket, and jungle boots while the walking stick shall be provided by the rangers. After gorilla trekking return to the lodge and relax. Alternatively after the strenuous gorilla trek, you transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for a relaxation experience.

Day 5: Travel to Kampala

Have early breakfast and embark on the return journey back to Kampala. Expect stopovers in Mbarara for lunch and at the Uganda Equator for some picture moments. Transfer to your hotel or residence.
